TheWord’s 101 More Hymn Stories module by Kenneth Osbeck is a devotional classic.
Those considering themselves “Old School” conservative Christians will thoroughly
enjoy reading through this text -
I should note that the “Great Resource for Everyone” rating is basically the top rating I can give for a book like this. To me, Osbeck’s books are some of the finest devotional writings of the twentieth century.
The module is simple, intuitive, and easy to read. Very nicely designed, Costas!
Every chapter includes a graphic of the hymn as seen in a hymnal and bibliographic information on author and composer. Most chapters include some technical information on the hymn, but it isn’t distracting in the least. Many chapters also include short anecdotes or quotations that go along with the topic of the hymn. For illustrative purposes, these are very worthwhile.
The screenshot emphasizes the general layout of the module. Notice that the 101 Hymn
Stories are sorted alphabetically by hymn. So, you can quickly find the hymn story
you’re looking for. Musicians will find a little bit of extra information at the
top of each entry (some entries have more than others); but non-
